Panel on “Çanakkale Victory in Our History and Culture” Held at Our Faculty

A panel titled “Çanakkale Victory in Our History and Culture”, organized within the scope of the 111th anniversary of the March 18 Çanakkale Victory, began with the recitation of the National Anthem and a moment of silence.

In the opening speech, our Dean, Prof. Dr. Zekeriya Işık, delivered a welcoming address. He expressed his gratitude to all faculty members and students who contributed to the panel, emphasizing that the Çanakkale Victory played a crucial role in the nation’s rebirth, the establishment of national unity and solidarity, and ultimately in paving the way for the Turkish War of Independence and the Republic.

The panel was moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hiclal Demir, with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hatice Yıldırım and Dr. Lecturer Altuğ Ortakçı as speakers. In her presentation titled “Violations of the Laws of War on the Çanakkale Front,” Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yıldırım examined violations of international war law committed by the Allied Powers during World War I at the Çanakkale Front.

Dr. Lecturer Ortakçı, in his presentation titled “An Evaluation of the Çanakkale Folk Song,” discussed the historical background of the Çanakkale Folk Song and its place in collective memory. He emphasized that the folk song is an important cultural heritage reflecting the suffering, sacrifices, and heroism of the Çanakkale War.

The program, during which all martyrs and veterans—especially Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk—were commemorated with mercy and gratitude, concluded with a group photo session.
